
Plant Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Plant Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our bitumen storage terminal in Belfast.
This is a key operational role with responsibility for safe and efficient terminal performance, stock control, purchasing, maintenance planning, contractor management and customer delivery support. The successful candidate will manage a small team of terminal operatives, support transport operations and help ensure the business continues to deliver a dependable, compliant and high-quality service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Terminal Operations
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the terminal, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable performance
- Supervise and support terminal operatives, including training, development and day-to-day management
- Ensure all plant operations are carried out in accordance with company procedures, the Bitumen Safety Code and all relevant health and safety requirements
- Monitor stock levels and manage stock control processes to maintain continuity of supply
- Oversee stock and sundry purchasing in line with company procedures, including scheduling inward deliveries
- Manage contractor and subcontractor activities to ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard
- Oversee the maintenance programme for fixed plant and support the ongoing reliability of the terminal
- Support the Bitumen Director in the efficient running of the division
- Act as the terminal’s primary key holder and be available outside normal working hours when required
- Monitor energy use using installed tools to achieve the company’s sustainably and ESOS targets.
Health, Safety, Quality and Compliance
- Ensure terminal operations are managed in line with the company’s Quality Management System.
- Support the ongoing maintenance and development of the Integrated Management System alongside the Group Quality Manager
- Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental awareness and operational compliance across the site
- Ensure appropriate training and development is in place for terminal operatives and drivers
- Complete required records relating to regulatory compliance under Charles Tennant & Co (NI) Ltd Fleet Operator’s Licence, Working Hours, and Tachograph legislation.
Operations and Customer Support
- Support the co-ordination of daily deliveries and transport subcontractor requirements
- Liaise with customers to ensure prompt, accurate and professional product deliveries
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to maintain service levels and meet operational priorities
Essential Criteria
- Experience in a plant, terminal, industrial or similar operational environment
- Experience in a line management or supervisory role, including planning and organising employees
- Working knowledge of industrial plant operation and maintenance
- Experience of working within an Integrated Management System or similarly controlled operating environment
- Ability to plan, prioritise and supervise operational and maintenance work programmes
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Full driving licence
- Ability to act as the terminal’s primary key holder and respond to out-of-hours operational requirements
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in bitumen, asphalt, bulk liquids, construction materials or a related sector
- Experience managing contractors and subcontractors
- Familiarity with stock control, logistics or supply co-ordination in an industrial setting

- Commercially aware, with a good understanding of how operational performance supports customer service and business success
- Self-motivated, accountable and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities
Hours of Work
8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with additional out-of-hours support required as needed by the business.
